Real Madrid Vs Atletico Madrid

Real Madrid take on their city rivals Atletico Madrid on  Sunday evening’s derby encounter .  Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso believes it is fundamental for the team to maintain cool heads  in the heat of Sunday evening’s derby encounter with Atletico Madrid

He told Marca: “We should keep cool heads for the duration of the match. They have a good team, and in coach Quique [Sanchez Flores] they have a winner.

“Players likes [Jose] Reyes, [Diego] Forlan and [Sergio] Aguero can win games on their own, but I hope that we are the ones that can triumph.”

Higuain, whose goal was the 700th scored by Madrid in the European Cup, said: "We achieved our main objective to reach the next round.

"We are now very motivated to face Atletico Madrid. We managed to remain undefeated after such an important game and we want to keep this streak up."

If recent history is anything to go by, Real should not have too many concerns about slipping up against Atletico, who are currently sixth in the standings.

Atletico have not beaten their illustrious neighbours either home or away since 1999, losing 11 of 17 meetings in that time .

Due to the current form of  The Los Blancos , it will almost be an impossible task for The Rojiblancos to beat them at Home.
In this weekend`s other games, bottom club Real Zaragoza - the only team yet to win a league game this season - host Real Mallorca while second-bottom Deportivo La Coruna are at Levante.
Also, Almeria take on Sporting Gijon and Hercules go to Osasuna.
